Berlinale shorts

14 feb i went to see two programs of the Berlinale shorts. I saw in total 12 short films from all over the world in all different styles. An inspiring experience. A great extra was that almost all of the filmmakers were there to talk shortly about their film and the process of making it. My personal highlights:
Ein Mädchen Namens Yssabeau – Rosana Cuellar
because of its beautiful sett dressing and the big contrast in the costumes and the personages with their surrounding.
Say Good bye to the story Christoph Schlingensief
This Film shows great actors  in a search for exiting moment without telling a story. Every time it seems that a story is forming te director turns into another direction. It shows how hard it is not to tell a story. As a viewer you are always looking for a story. The great thing about this film was that it was really exciting to watch without it having a plot, and you could really see good actors at work switching from one emotion to another without losing credibility.

LI.LI.TA.AL. – Akihito Izuhara
A beautiful animation which takes you into another world. Love this film for its fantasy and especially for the esthetics.
Licuri Surf – Guile Martins
A beautiful edited film. What i found the most inspiring is that the director after the film told the audience that at first he made an editing in which he tried to explain everything. That didn’t work so he started editing by feeling and esthetics which made it in to a interesting film. something to remember for mt own work.
